Dri - Two are One

Dreamy song and video by Kansas singer Dri. She had a nice Indie Pop cum RnB album out a while ago. I always wondered what camera/ film stock was used for this video.

just the bits!

Hiya in 2015! I had a few posts on here, but I kept scrapping them because they felt not quite "there". 2015 is a bit all over the place for me thus far. I've felt some of the highest highs and lowest lows I've felt in a WHILE and we're only two months into this year. I'm excited to see where the rest of the year takes me honestly.
I hope I can keep an open mind...
I wanna write a bit about what I've been up to at some point, so this post is brief. I miss seeing new content on my blog I guess... heh heh.

Listening

Princess Nokia has been doing a podcast since 2014 and it's low key the best thing on this planet. I've cried, laughed and pounded my chest in approval for this beautiful "urban feminist" and her cool friends on this show more times than I can count. Topics covered range from Magical Girl anime to the importance and absurdity of Empire, to menstrual cycles, to cheap Mexican booze... Honestly??? I'm in love! Currently trying to persuade my best friend to see her for free on March 10th. If you, like me, are stuck in a town that heavenly bodies have yet to grace, live vicariously through the past episodes here...

Been bumping Kali Uchis' new mixtape since the day it came out. Its nice, feel good, no brainer music and at times she reminds me of my beloved Amy Winehouse...

Kelela's new song and video though...

Looking

Trying to pick up a DVD copy of Daughters of the Dust. The full movie was online a while back but eventually got removed. All the new copies I seem to find are WELL out of my price range if they are even available. I'm also watching some of the works of Catherine Breillat (cue snooty french laugh) intermittently between studying for midterms. "À ma soeur!" is REEEEALLY interesting. I was always hesitant to watch it, but I've been pleasantly surprised thus far. I'll probably post about it here when I'm finished...

Lusting
*Tim Gunn voice* If I had do describe my aesthetic: It oscillates between sweetheart tomboy and eccentric librarian. This JW Anderson FW15 look is definitely appealing to the latter.

Also a fan of this bag.
I just want a nice pair of Adidas Gazelles for under 50.00 but apparently I'm asking for too much...

Learning
I picked up a copy of Just Kids by Patti Smith after YEARS of procrastinating. It's honestly one of the sweetest things I've read in a while and it makes me wanna talk to beautiful tragic boys, drink coffee black, and make something stupid, but amazing... and maybe skip all the horrible drug addiction, homelessness and terrible incurable illness parts yah know?
"Where does it all lead? What will become of us? These were our young questions, and young answers were revealed. It leads to each other. We become ourselves."

I have a blog I started on a whim for original short stories, brain farts and poems. It's over here and there's also a permanent link on the blog in the sidebar... Its not the best thing ever (I'm pretty bad at grammar, can't you tell?), but it was fun to make and I think there's something there...idk check it out.

Saturday's Song: Frank Ocean - Memrise

Frank Ocean debuted a breezy new song this weekend on his tumblr. A welcomed pick me up for this crummy week.
I memorized the wayward expressions
Never look down
Never let you see me down...

pretty pink, baby blue

I've forgotten how to do these little collage doohickeys so this is my best effort at compiling a couple items I wouldn't mind having in my direct vicinity. Hopefully, it breaks up all the lazy music posts on here.

Watching fashion shows makes me a tad uncomfortable (idk I'm weird like that), but I really liked these two outfits from Red or Dead, especially the coats. You can stream it here.

Dom Sebastian Mint Sweatshirt + World Cap // Casio Rose Gold Watch // Heavenly P.U.N.K. Girl Ep // New Balance WR996 (fw14)
Supreme Work Trench Coat // Current Elliott Patch Jeans // Herschel Little America Backpack // Hisashi Eguchi Daily Pose // Tomboy DVD

Also, I'm now on VeryGoods bookmarking and crying over all of the nice stuff I can't have at the moment.

Saturday's Song: Kilo Kish - Locket

I've been a big Kilo Kish fan since like 2011-12? So I am truly digging this dreamy video and song for "Locket" off her latest release with Maison Kitsuné, Across.

cup 'o' doodles

Here are a few sketches from my "new" sketchbook.

The video quality isn't the best on my little handheld camera, so I included pictures of  some of them. I'd really like to upgrade to a new scanner/ camera/ photoshop once my classes for this year are paid up. I'm getting a little tired of the charmingly homespun aesthetic of my blog. It feels really -I dunno- childish at times. Let me know what you think.
weak attempt at hiding a WIP for the webcomic
this song.
My sketchbook is 90% train or at home doodles, because those things make up 90% of my life... ( ಠ◡ಠ )
this song. the lyrics seem really sinister upon multiple listens...

according to no plan.

Hi guys. I've been noticeably absent from le blog for a bit. Well hopefully it was noticeable... maybe not.

At any rate I've been terribly busy with school and truthfully I've been going nonstop with work and schoolwork for over a year, and its killing me inside. I knew full well I needed a break this summer, but I signed on for two classes in an accelerated course just so I could be done with school sooner.
It was THE WORST.
I'm feeling pretty sore about it because up until this point I've done so well in college. I know it's probably because the focus just wasn't there. Its probably because I'm well overdue for a break. I just have all these bullshit expectations that I put on myself that make it impossible to see how much I truly have to offer. Like, I have to make all A's to prove I'm bright. I have to have X amount of scholarships before I can buy myself a new pack of gum, without feeling guilty that the money didn't go to books. I have take all of these classes so that my time is college hasn't been "wasted".
But, I haven't actually enjoyed myself in so long. There's no rush, at least for me, to finish school, get the career, travel the world. I shouldn't feel stressed when it seems like other people have so many marvelous things happening to them, because I'm super great myself. And remember kids not everything will always go according to plan... and that's okay. Too bad it took a costly mistake to show me that.

With that said, hopefully in the coming weeks I can be more active on the blog. And hopefully you guys will stick around and enjoy the content.

'til then

Film Favorites Friday: Earth Girls Are Easy

It's like an 80s musical  parody of the 80s... with aliens. So much cheese so little time.

My Josephine.

Nice washed-out film 'bout love, faith, a hint of xenophobia (?) and a laundromat. One of those rare shorts that I think is the perfect length and don't wish was much longer... (watch here)
