Saturday's Song: Frank Ocean - Memrise

Frank Ocean debuted a breezy new song this weekend on his tumblr. A welcomed pick me up for this crummy week.
I memorized the wayward expressions
Never look down
Never let you see me down...

pretty pink, baby blue

I've forgotten how to do these little collage doohickeys so this is my best effort at compiling a couple items I wouldn't mind having in my direct vicinity. Hopefully, it breaks up all the lazy music posts on here.

Watching fashion shows makes me a tad uncomfortable (idk I'm weird like that), but I really liked these two outfits from Red or Dead, especially the coats. You can stream it here.

Dom Sebastian Mint Sweatshirt + World Cap // Casio Rose Gold Watch // Heavenly P.U.N.K. Girl Ep // New Balance WR996 (fw14)
Supreme Work Trench Coat // Current Elliott Patch Jeans // Herschel Little America Backpack // Hisashi Eguchi Daily Pose // Tomboy DVD

Also, I'm now on VeryGoods bookmarking and crying over all of the nice stuff I can't have at the moment.

Saturday's Song: Kilo Kish - Locket

I've been a big Kilo Kish fan since like 2011-12? So I am truly digging this dreamy video and song for "Locket" off her latest release with Maison Kitsuné, Across.

cup 'o' doodles

Here are a few sketches from my "new" sketchbook.

The video quality isn't the best on my little handheld camera, so I included pictures of  some of them. I'd really like to upgrade to a new scanner/ camera/ photoshop once my classes for this year are paid up. I'm getting a little tired of the charmingly homespun aesthetic of my blog. It feels really -I dunno- childish at times. Let me know what you think.
weak attempt at hiding a WIP for the webcomic
this song.
My sketchbook is 90% train or at home doodles, because those things make up 90% of my life... ( ಠ◡ಠ )
this song. the lyrics seem really sinister upon multiple listens...

according to no plan.

Hi guys. I've been noticeably absent from le blog for a bit. Well hopefully it was noticeable... maybe not.

At any rate I've been terribly busy with school and truthfully I've been going nonstop with work and schoolwork for over a year, and its killing me inside. I knew full well I needed a break this summer, but I signed on for two classes in an accelerated course just so I could be done with school sooner.
It was THE WORST.
I'm feeling pretty sore about it because up until this point I've done so well in college. I know it's probably because the focus just wasn't there. Its probably because I'm well overdue for a break. I just have all these bullshit expectations that I put on myself that make it impossible to see how much I truly have to offer. Like, I have to make all A's to prove I'm bright. I have to have X amount of scholarships before I can buy myself a new pack of gum, without feeling guilty that the money didn't go to books. I have take all of these classes so that my time is college hasn't been "wasted".
But, I haven't actually enjoyed myself in so long. There's no rush, at least for me, to finish school, get the career, travel the world. I shouldn't feel stressed when it seems like other people have so many marvelous things happening to them, because I'm super great myself. And remember kids not everything will always go according to plan... and that's okay. Too bad it took a costly mistake to show me that.

With that said, hopefully in the coming weeks I can be more active on the blog. And hopefully you guys will stick around and enjoy the content.

'til then

My Josephine.

Nice washed-out film 'bout love, faith, a hint of xenophobia (?) and a laundromat. One of those rare shorts that I think is the perfect length and don't wish was much longer... (watch here)

save the last dance

Thinking back, prom was so weird and lame, but fun. I just wished the music selection were better.

So, I made this mix with some of my favorite slow jams for dancing with your boo... or you know, alone in your room with nothing to console you, but your lonely sobs. In my opinion, it's also nice background music for studying, cleaning, etc.
Enjoi.
All dum artwork by me. The cover came from this post; don't know the original source sorry!
I replaced Time After Time with A Different Light by The Marine Girls, because I felt time after time was SO overdone when it comes to prom music (it feels weird typing that). It's still one of my favorite songs to belt into my toothbrush though...

Saturday's Song: The Mo Dettes - White Mice

Sum nice barely coherent all-girl post punk music accompanied by seriously oversaturated visuals for your weekend listening. Check out the guitarist for some of the best style/ eyebrows you've ever seen. I was looking up alot of The Slits, Marine Girls and The Raincoats at one point last year and stumbled onto this video. I was pleased to find some of those people made up this group. Anyway, hope you enjoy!

Squirrel Girl

Ey you!

 Current shoe n sock situation.
A surprising amount of flexibility went into making this picture.
The backdrop is a new/old children's quilt. I've been at a loss for what to use it for, but I'm thinking I'll turn it into the world's most obnoxious duffel bag (gym bag).

School is... school. I'm halfway through things and I'm feeling the burn. Everyday of my "break" was spent settling dues, Selling off all my possessions on eBay, shipping goods, doing my hair (a 2 day event), Drawing for the webcomic, sending scholarship applications, but mostly on HOMEWORK.

In other words, this hasn't been much of a break, but I did get to read two very cool graphic novels (I feel so weird calling them that, they are just comics right???) that I've been meaning to check out in my time off, and redo this blog a little.
JIMMY CORRIGAN by Chris Ware
SANDMAN CHRONICLES by Neil Gaiman

Goofy alternate background which looks like a tie between Rocko's Modern Life and Rugrats...

Been meaning to blog about Micachu & The Shapes for some time now. I was introduced to them by a friend who works at a record store where they were giving a free show! The band uses alot of found objects in their recordings and performances like vacuum cleaners, random blocks of wood and lawncare tools.

I really adore the Tim & Eric-y so terrible it's cool look of their videos and of course their music. Which is something I still can't quite pin down. Idk I like to listen to them when I'm feeling a bit weird and I've been feeling really weird lately...

THIS HAS BEEN A POST.

Sunday's Song: View Point - Teebs

This was supposed to go up yesterday folks! Sorry about that, my mind has been elsewhere... The flowers have begun to bloom and I haven't touched my tattered winter coat all week! No real song explanation here, I've just been listening to alot of instrumentals lately. There's something nice - to me at least - about having no words in a song. Hope you had a great week/ weekend.

odds and ends

Lazy Ways by Marine Girls on Grooveshark
Marine Girls - Lazy Ways

Just another random post.

I got this dress in the mail in January, it was one of my last purchases of 2013. The collar situation on this thing is crazy and the length is a lot shorter than I'm used to, but I LOVE it! Not to mention it was very reasonably priced I had to have it.

I also won these shoes on Ebay, but they are massively massive, even for someone with wide feet like me! I hate to get rid of them because I've wanted a pair for so long and these were a STEAL, but I'll probably post them on Ebay soon for my buying price.

sox & the city
I've been out of school this entire week due to poor weather. Atlanta was pretty much the butt of everyone's jokes a while ago due to the gridlocked traffic we had on the roads in less than 2 inches of snow, but do keep us in your prayers. This weather is abnormal for us southerners and some people weren't able to make it home because of it. I wish I cold say I've been productive in light of this break, but I've mostly been marathoning X-Files and gorging myself on cereal.

"Angela Davis" on my American government binder
In the meantime and in between time I've been making stuff and drawing alot. I know I keep hinting at it, but I have a big pet project in the works and I'm hoping some of you will see it and enjoy it very much. I know I enjoyed making it. Hopefully I can reveal everything (or at least a sneeeak peak) soon!

Considering changing my blog layout, but then I think of all the work that goes into that and chicken out... I don't know, I just think right now my blog probably gives people motion sickness and although I'm very fond of it, it could be too much for potential readers...we'll see.
