The Inbetweeners

I've been thinking alot lately; like talking to myself and reading serious and beautiful shit. Probably because I have an actual reason to now and because I may be ever so slightly insane.

The Robert Glasper experiment was brought to my attention from a REALLY unlikely source, but I love it. This is one of my favorite songs from the album, which was released Feb 27th! I'm considering bying a physical copy.

Anywho one of my best friends turned 19!!!!...at the start of this month. So why is there a post on it now? Well hopefully she finally got her gift today. On the last official day of February. Oh god I am a terrible friend, but I have been working diligently on her present to make sure it was all cool and superior and shit.
Here's what I've been doing for the whole month :(

My internet is being a bastard. I'll post more photos later...

I think the ages of 17 to 22 are a greige period. It means you really aren't a teenager but not quite an adult yet. At least that's how I feel. It's like you get all these liberties like voting and dating guys (maybe that's just me), and working a job or handling your finances. It can be hectic and tedious and let's face it terrifying, but it's sometimes rewarding.
I don't have a definite direction in life yet, but there's some kind of odd calm that comes with not knowing (probably delusion). I'm not in a rush to have my life fall into pace just yet, but I'm ready to start taking control and becoming more assured in the kind of woman I wish to become.

Stupid Cupid

I'm trying to get back into the hang of things with all these constant changes. I'd be lying if I said I wasn't even a tinge anxious.

About the title...because I am a lame little odd-ball and as awkward as a frog in heels I'm sad to say...I don't have a beau. *GASP* *EGAD* *Cries of disbelief all around*
No one who is my type/in my age group/normal ever seems to approach me. Wah. So, I made a playlist to comfort myself, because that's what I always do when the going gets tough...or cripplingly lonely in this case.

Here are some photos from some of my favorite and coolest couples. I want the kind of love that can survive extreme post apocalyptic conditions, drug busts, home invasions, insanity and illness, but I mean coffee and a movie would be nice too.

Angel and Collins; Rent

Mookie and Tina; Do The Right Thing

The delightfully weird and adorable Dawn Wiener and Brandon; Welcome to the Dollhouse

Edward and Kim; Edward Scissorhands

Tank Girl and Booga; Tank Girl comic

Click the last photo for the playlist.

Happy Singles-Awareness-Day to me!

*I'm starting to think posts like this are the reason for my current lack of pursuers...ah well.

Smells Like Teen Spirit

That's about as lame as my post titles have gotten and I've had some pretty bad ones.
Just started watching Daria...WHICH IS SO BRILLIANT OMG! If I could go back in time and give the box set to myself the summer before ninth (or tenth) grade I think I would have been a better person or more none plussed about life in general.

It's a nice show not the best thing I've seen by any means, but I like shows about brainy girls defeating the odds in a...non cheesy way? Why? Because that's what I want to do essentially. To hold onto my nerdy habits like devouring graphic novels, or watching old corny slightly rascist movies, or crying about the series finale of Sherlock. I digress this post is about the misanthropic wunderkid that is Daria.

Sure Daria's classmates are like the atomically enhanced versions of people I know in real life and they're kinda one sided, but it makes the show funny. Adolescence is essentially about finding out what things you like to do and getting good enough at whatever you need to, to ensure you can do those things for as long as possible. Unless its murder or sex or something else dangerous and weird.

I seriously thought there was something wrong with being smart or antisocial(mostly the latter). I mean it's not anything I can really help at this point. So I thought it was cool to know MTV, the station which currently broadcasts shows about obliterating your liver and ovaries before you're even old enough to run for public office, actually embraced a show about intellegence at some point.

So here's nice 'lil' show about a cynical-silver-tongued-savvy teen, her best friend and the mostly clueless yet charmingly unassuming people who surround her.

Or whatever.

No Room For Doubt

Not gonna lie I have listened to this song, by Lianne La Havas, almost EVERY day for about two weeks. It is sublime. It puts me in such an amazing mood! I first heard about the band from their cover of Everything Everything's "Final Form". Her voice is so clear and lovely. Her clothes are ADORABLE. Her hair is ADORABLE. She is ADORABLE The tune is so sweet, but not in a sickening trying too hard way. Paris streets in the background. The voices of the passerbys. The guy on the castanuelas in the end who joins in. It's too perfect. Watch now.

iDoodle

So in addition to creeping on beautiful men and downloading copious amounts of music (illegally cause I'm a B.A.) I also doodle. It started as a distraction from the slow burning death that is school. I think I'm okay I'm no Rembrandt or child prodigy who will unite the world through art...I haven't been doodling/ sketching for a while because I was more concerned about my life falling to shambles, but enough of that. This is a happy place so here are a couple of my current favorites... I'm sure I'll look back on these and hate them like I normally do with everything I've drawn at some point, but for now they're okay.

Note: I am AWARE these pictures aren't the best. I am technology illiterate. Like Fah-real. Using a scanner was DEFINITELY NOT an option I tried to get fancy with camera tricks, but really all these pictures look like it took them whilst having an epileptic bout. Silly Nia.

I'm trying to start a comic with a quirky/spunky/nihilist female lead. It'll be somewhat autobiographical ( cause I'm not creative enough to just make up a cool story...) Along the lines of American Splendor style wise (I hope). The girl's name I can't decide on. I'm thinking "Neil" short for Cornelia or "Jello" a pet name for Angelica. I don't know I'll probably abandon it. It could be something cool though. I like her look. She looks like a 12 year old boy with eyelashes. I...like that? The hair is based on my brothers'. It's the result of an unfortunate scalping at the hands of an overzealous stylist. This never happened to me, but it did to my brother. I thought it was funny so I put it in... Nosferatu shirt just cause its the greatest vampire movie EVER. The boom box is kinda stupid I just needed to put SOMETHING in her hand... We'll see where it goes. More then likely up on my shelf for the next three months.

This is a sketch based on a photo I took. My hair looked really cool, or so I thought, so I took a picture of it and drew it just 'cause.

Little girl drawings.

I really like lips and eyes. I'm always drawing full lips on stuff. like everywhere.

Sketches of me with a coal pencil.

Things I draw when I get Hungry.

That's it for now. I'll get a new sketchbook soon. Maybe keep the comic going. Who knows?

11.1.11

I bought this CD on Halloween Day in the seventh grade. This track was one of my favorites because ironically enough the next day was November 1st and the quirky rapping courtesy of a man who I now know is MF DOOM and the bluesy/funky rythmn. It just gives me a good feeling and perfectly explains the sensation of fall coming and leaves changing and everything slowly dying and breaking away from routines. I'm talking too much. I like listening to it every year around this time sooo I figured I'd share. 11111
